Having tea at Laura’s Tea Room is more than just great food, properly brewed tea and flavored iced tea. This experience of a lifetime starts with selecting a teacup from among their many vintage cups. Tea begins with a salad, followed by a chilled soup. The third course offers a selection of savory tea sandwiches and sweet dessert bites, accompanied by an English scone with the requisite Devon cream and lemon curd. Before the meal, you can try on their many vintage hats until you find just the right one. Don’t forget to bring your camera—they have some great props for you to pose with! After lunch, you can browse the quaint shops in downtown Ridgeway before returning home. Depart at 9:30 AM and return home at 3:30 PM. Activity Level 2.

This trip was originally scheduled for May 2016, but was cancelled due to low sign-ups. Since many people expressed disappointment that they couldn’t go, we’re trying it again this year, a month earlier. Hopefully it will be a beautiful spring day for us to enjoy the gardens.
Welcome to the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens in Pinehurst, NC. This beautiful NC gem became a reality in 1978 with the Ebersole Holly Gardens. Through the years additional gardens were implemented, including the Rose Garden, the Conifer Garden, Sir Walter Raleigh Garden, Atkins Hillside Garden, Hackley Woodland Garden, Ambrose Japanese Garden and Desmond Native Wetland Trail. Docents will lead us through the 32 acres of gardens including collections of plants both familiar and unusual. Enjoy a delicious two course lunch at Ironwood, nestled in the heart of historic Pinehurst. Their seasonal menu expertly combines the signature flavors of the South with local and international ingredients. Depart 9:00 a.m. and return 6:00 p.m.
