Travel Adventures is a Shepherd’s Center program designed to offer active seniors the opportunity to travel together on comfortable chartered buses to locations in the southeast. The trips are open to any adult in the Charlotte community. The tours are led by SCC volunteer leaders who help plan the trips. Travel Adventures offer about 12 trips during the year to various destinations. Knowing the diverse interests of seniors, the committee plans trips to appeal to a wide audience. Past trips include favorite theaters for performances, beautiful gardens throughout the state, historical tours, museums and winery tours. TRAVEL POLICIES & INFORMATION
Register early! Our trips fill quickly. Please complete the Travel Registration Form and send with a check made payable to The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte. Trip costs are priced per person.
Activity Level: Our trips are planned for active adults and may require a lot of walking. We have rated our trips by activity level.
If you have a disability that limits your independence, you must be accompanied by a companion. We regret that we cannot accommodate wheelchairs. All trip participants are expected to carry information about medical conditions, medications and medical insurance providers. The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte is not liable for individuals who may become ill or injured on Travel Adventures trips.
Parking: Trips leave from Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3115 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211. Please park in the back parking area farthest from the sanctuary.
Cancellations: Day Trips—If cancelled 45 days prior to the trip date, a credit for a future trip will be given. After the 45-day grace period, if a substitute is found, that person will pay the trip cost and a credit for a future trip will be issued to the original traveler. No cash refunds. Overnight trips: Deposits are nonrefundable. Once final payment is received and the rooming list is submitted, there can be no refunds.
Please note: The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte reserves the right to change venues, restaurants, plays, etc. if necessary. Trips must be paid for at least 21 days prior to departure to guarantee the charter buses. For your convenience, trips may be charged to a credit card IF the amount is $100.00 or more. ON THE GO …. Travel Adventures
The “On the Go” Travel Adventures Program offers interesting local outings for a small group. This program is for those who like carpooling to nearby destinations. Volunteers lead the trips and coordinate the details. To reserve your spot, send your payment to the Shepherd’s Center. Be prepared to chip in for parking fees. An administrative fee is included in the price. Restaurant meals are always additional.
Thursday, January 18—UNC Nutrition Research Institute (UNC NRI) in Kannapolis. The UNC NRI offers the opportunity to observe research in progress, including research on aging and the effects of DNA on metabolism. This interesting tour will be followed by lunch at Restaurant 46 in Kannapolis. Maximum of 16. Cost: $10 plus lunch. Meet at Trinity Church at 10:00 AM; return at 3:00.
Thursday, March 8—Charlotte Ballet presents “The Most Incredible Thing”. Audiences young and old are sure to enjoy this fairytale pop ballet of Hans Christian Andersen’s fable about a king who holds a competition to determine who can make the “most incredible thing.” Lunch will precede the show at a restaurant to be determined. Cost is $20 plus lunch. Meet at 10:30 AM, return at 4:30 PM. Must sign up and pay by February 23.

You’ll practically hear Aunt Bee calling, “Andy!” when we travel to Andy Griffith’s home town of Mt. Airy, NC. Frequently referenced on “The Andy Griffith Show”, Mt. Airy boasts the Andy Griffith Museum, Floyd’s Barber Shop, and the Snappy Lunch Counter, where Andy ate as a boy. Our trip will take us to the historic home of Gertrude Smith, a prominent interior designer, followed by lunch (on your own) at the Snappy Lunch Counter. After lunch, we’ll tour the Andy Griffith Museum (with the Siamese Twins exhibit in the building’s basement), before heading home. Depart Trinity Church at 9:00 AM, return at 4:00 PM. Cost: $60.00 for Savvy Senior members, $65 for nonmembers. Activity Level 2.

Join the Shepherd’s Center for a two-night trip to Atlanta, Georgia! The trip begins on Sunday, May 22. Trip plans include tours of the World of Coca Cola, the CNN Tower, the Fox Theater and more! Fee includes all attractions, hotel, transportation, and breakfasts. Other meals will be on your own. Cost is $400.00 each for double occupancy, and $550.00 for a single room.
