SHIIP – The Shepherd’s Center provides trained volunteers to discuss and explain Medicare, Medicare supplements, Prescription Drug Plans and Long Term Care Insurance through its Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). Counselors meet one-on-one with clients helping them to navigate through the Medicare system. Appointments are coordinated through the SCC office and managed by Program Director.
Tax Filing Assistance Program – between February and April each year trained tax counselors are available for older adults in preparing their Federal and State tax returns. The program is located at another location, and is coordinated through the SCC office. Donations are accepted.
Transportation Services provide rides to medical services, dental and therapy appointments. Calls are received in the SCC office and available volunteers identified who contact the individual in need of a ride. Donations are accepted.
Did you know that one of the Shepherd’s Center’s services is a handyman service? That you can get small repairs done through us? The service is free, although as with other services, donations to SCC are encouraged. There may be a charge for parts and materials. Our handy helpers define “small” as things like:
- Plumbing: leaky faucets, running toilets
- Electrical: rewiring lamps, exchanging light fixtures, replacing switches
- Carpentry: hanging pictures, re-nailing loose boards
Are you handy and have a few hours per month to spare? Our current helpers would love to have you on their team! Please contact Margery at SCC at 704-365-1995 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help or know someone else who might be interested.
